08/05/2011 – Congratulations to Joanna, our trainee dental nurse for passing her dental qualification exam (NVQ) and to Katie, our senior dental nurse for passing radiography course! We are delighted to see how staff engages in self development and improves.
13/06/2011 – In addition to The WandTM Painless Anesthetic, already well known by majority of our patients, Smile Care acquired The VibrajectTM, the appliance for painless application of dental anesthetic. Vibraject is a device, new to the UK, but with over 15,000 users in the USA. The small, battery-powered unit causes the syringe and the needle to vibrate, and this vibration is transmitted to the nerves, which sense pressure and vibration. These nerve fibres respond, transmitting their signals to the brain faster that the pain signals caused by the injection, which are transmitted on thinner, more poorly insulated fibres.
Reportedly, nerve endings sense vibrations first and then cannot transmit feelings of pain. So the vibrations essentially mask patient discomfort, putting them at ease during even the most painful injections.
